Scholarship Winners!!!
February 21, 2024- The Sangre De Cristo National Heritage Area presented students with scholarships for their National History Day in Colorado projects. These students presented their projects at the Regional History Fair Competition in January. Their projects were chosen based on their focus on the local history of the San Luis Valley. The following students had their projects recognized at a meeting with the Sangre De Cristo National Heritage Area board members and staff.

Tynnley Buhr and Samuel Malouff were awarded for their individual documentaries on the Cumbres and Toltec.

Violet Sandoval was awarded for exhibit on the Maestas Case.

Joey Torres was awarded for his documentary on the S.P.M.D.T.U and the Maestas Case.

Laila Martinez was awarded for her documentary on Spanglish in the San Luis Valley.

Josh Ortiz was awarded for his exhibit on the Civil War and the connection to the San Luis Valley.
Josh Ortiz will be presenting his project at the National History Day in Colorado state competition in April.
